Common Faults:
My PC no longer boots up, I get a Blue screen with an Error message, what can I do?
This could be caused by a number of problems, it could be a software or hardware problem, let us know the exact error message and we can give you an idea of what's wrong, this fault really requires a visit to diagnose and resolve. If this happened after installing new software or hardware then remove the new item and see if the fault disappears, we can then find a solution for you.
When I turn on my PC I get a message saying No boot device present (or similar message).
Check there are no Floppy disks, CD's or USB Keys in the PC, if there are remove them and reboot. If you still have the error then your hard disk has probably failed. This will require a new HDD and complete software rebuild. This is a very common fault so you should always back up your important documents and photos on to CD or DVD.
I keep getting popups appear when I'm browsing the web.
You may also find your homepage has changed and your system is running slower, you may also notice new icons have appeared. You have been infected with Spyware/Adware or a virus. If this has happened do not use your credit/debit card online or enter perosnal/bank details into any websites until the problem has been resolved, you may also have key loggers installed which keep a file of everything you type and sites you visit then send them off to people for fraud. Call us straight away and for £30 we will take your PC away, remove all infections and ensure its security patches are up to date.
My PC is running very slow lately.
This is a very common complaint and effects almost everyone, over time you install more and more software and applications on your PC and this will slow it down, programs that are running in the background all the time are using up valuable memory and causing other programs to run slower. When you install things like, camera software, internet security, printers, scanners etc.. they all load software as soon as your PC boots up. We can improve you speed by either disabling processes that you don't actually use or by upgrading your memory to compensate for the additional software. You should also defrag your hard drive every few months as this will speed up access times when opening programs.
My laptop/PC just turns off at random, espically when playing games or DVD's.
If it turns back on after a few minutes then its probably a heat problem, normally caused by a fauly or dirty system or processor fan. Some times a clean is all thats needed but a new fan is about £15 - £30 depending on model, PC fans can be fitted same day but laptop fans will take 3 - 5 days to source, some laptop fans come from the USA so take a bit longer.
My Harddisk is very noisey.
Harddisks tend to get noisey just before then fail, make sure you always backup important files and pictures to CD\DVD or another drive as disk failures are extreamley common. A new 250GB Harddisk is about £35, and if you call us before it fails we can simply duplicate your old disk onto the new one, so you can carry on as normal, all for £30 plus the cost of the part.
My laptop keyboard has faulty/broken or missing keys.
A replacement laptop keyboard is normally about £25 - £35 plus £30 labour charge.
When I turn my PC or laptop on I get nothing, no lights or noises.
This is most likely a power problem, first check the plug and fuse, and try a different lead. If this is not the problem its probably a Power Supply failure (PSU), this is cheap and easy repair for PC's if its a laptop it may require a new system board which is a bit more expensive depending on make and model.
My Laptop screen is cracked.
The cost of this repair depends on the age and make of laptop, a brand new replacement screen is normally £120 - £170 depending on the model of laptop so if you only have a cheap laptop its probably not worth repairing unless we can source you a second hand screen (which we can normally do for more popular makes (i.e Dell, HP, Toshiba, Acer), Give us a call with your make and model details and we can get you a price.
When I turn my PC on I get a series of beeps but no picture.
This is normally a memory or processor fault, give us a call and we will investigate it for you, remember its only £30 plus parts.
My PC boots but I get lots of lines and strange colours on the monitor.
This is likely to be a faulty graphics card, or monitor, try another monitor if you have one, but the graphics card is a more common failure.
My Inkjet Printer has stopped printing or the print quality is very bad.
If its not printing at all, check the cables and remove the power plug completely for about 10 seconds, then plug back in and try again, check the print queue in Windows is not paused or has an error, also check for paper jams. If the print quality is bad try running the head cleaning program from you printer control panel within windows (you may have to run it several times to make a difference) if its still bad replace the print head (this may be separate or part of the ink cartridge)
My Laser printer quality is very poor or it's not picking paper up or jamming a lot.
If the print quality is poor then you may require a maintenance kit or new toner, try a new toner and if that doesn't solve the problem you will probably need a new fuser. If its a cheap laser printer (less than £100) then your probably better of buying a new one as the parts and labour will be almost as much as a complete machine. If its not picking up paper correctly you may just need new pickup rollers, these are fairly cheap to replace.
