How do you tell you are infected with a virus?

You may not be able to tell, your PC could be working away in the background using your machine to infect thousands of others on the internet or sending all your personal details to someone.

Signs that you do have a virus could be: System running slower than normal, hard disk light is always on, strange icons or pop ups appear, home page has changed, internet is running slow.

Virus Removal If your PC is online then you need to have Virus protection, there are several free anti virus programs available (see our useful links page) as well as paid for programs, some offer full PC Security which includes, anti virus, firewall, spyware and fraud protection, but there are also free alternatives that sometimes do an even better job.

Malware, Adware and Spyware?

The biggest problem we solve at the moment is malware, the current trend is the malware installs fake antivirus software telling you, that you have been infected with hundreds of viruses and asking you to pay a fee (normally in dollars) to purchase the software. Never pay for the software, they will then have your card details.

This is very hard to remove and will require a visit to clean up, it normally gets installed by the user clicking on a window, or popup or running a rouge file without realising, these tend to come from file sharing sites, and even facebook.

Spyware and adware tend to cause pop ups and change your home page, or install strange icons or toolbars on your PC, spyware sits in the background sending information about your habits and sometimes more serious things like passwords back to another PC, there are links to some removal tools on our useful links page, but sometimes you may need a visit to remove these.
