What is a virus?
A virus is a piece of computer code or program designed to cause you problems or steal your data, it may be it causes your PC to run slow, or it may be its just sent you bank details to Africa, if your PC is connected to the internet then you need up to date Virus protection.
There are several free virus programs that will update themselves and keep you protected (see our tools page to download free virus protection) or you could buy one of the big names such as Norton or Mcafee, but I would recommend Avast which is completely free with free updates (see tools page )
What is Spyware?
Spyware is a program that installs itself on your PC without you knowing (although you do normally click something to download it without knowng). Spyware is more of a problem than viruses these days and harder to remove, if your getting a lot of pop ups for adult sites or trying to sell viagra etc.. then your infected, it may also install icons on your start menu or desktop.
Spyware is tricky to remove and is best left to professionals like us, there are some programs that claim to remove all spyware for you (for a fee) but some of these programs are also spyware so it best to let us remove it for you.
The best way to avoid infection is to be careful where you visit online, if you get a window pop up asking you to click yes or no (or open or close) then never click on the button within the window, close it down using the cross (x) button in the top right hand menu bar. This method is how most spyware gets on to PC's or its downloaded with free screensavers etc..
We can come and install a free antivirus program with updates that is free for life, you just have to renew your registration every 12 months (at no cost) I have used Avast for 4 years and have never had a virus so I highly recommend it.
